A fireplace these days tends to be a luxury - especially in London where a lot of fireplaces are removed during renovating (that extra space taken by the chimney breast tends to be quite valuable in this market). Therefore, the modern fireplace is changing in shape, size and even its energy source. The traditional image of a fireplace brings to mind a rectangular section of the wall jutting out, accommodating the chimney breast. Nowadays, a live fireplace is becoming more and more of a rarity so chimney breasts can be all shapes and sizes, in the middle of the room, large and square with an open flue - or in the case of bio-ethanol fires (we're big fans), not flue at all!
